Work Area 1 - Software Based Systems

The objectives are to

• Demonstrate the reality of mobile access to, and convergence of, services in the IT, broadcast and consumer domains

• Consolidate differences in the naming, addressing and numbering schemes to promote simpler, uniform access to distributed mobile objects composing multimedia services

• Determine the building blocks of application components that may reside at one time in the terminal, then in the network, or be composed of other objects that themselves are mobile

• Specify, design and implement components capable of delivering mobile multimedia services - these components being the interfaces, objects and protocols that underlie the middleware and the agents that execute the services

The areas of work include

• Middleware Technology

• Software radio - software aspects

• Mobile and intelligent agents

• Distributed mobile management systems

• Integrity mechanisms
