7.10 New Revenues through Ubiquitous Services: Removing the Barriers to Commercialisation
Passive services, delivered ubiquitously via wired and wireless networks, offer a new revenue stream for operators as voice and broadband commercialise. However, short range wireless technology in itself is insufficient. This element of the Core 4 programme addresses key barriers to commercialisation in the user, network and service domains.
Dr Steve Wright, Head of Long Term Research, BT
  7.20 Reducing Cost-per-Bit: Future Wireless
The reverse side of the coin to new revenue generation is cost constraint.
'New radio' and innovative use of the radio spectrum, facilitated by increasing deregulation, are important drivers in this area. This element of the Core 4 programme addresses the application of cognitive radio and cross-layer operation to secure new delivery efficiencies and spectrum value.
Dr Tim Moulsley, Philips
7.30 Securing the Future: In an Increasingly Open World
Alongside revenues and costs, maintaining the integrity of the network and services is key. This element of the Core 4 programme is aimed at securing the devices and services in a world of interworked networked and increasingly open and interconnected personal devices.
