IEEE PIMRC ’08 International Workshop on

Efficiency

‘Key’ to Next Generation of Mobile Radio Access Technologies

15th September 2008 , Palais des Festivals de Cannes, Cannes, France

Chairs:             Trevor Gill (Vodafone Group, R & D, UK), Rahim Tafazolli (University of Surrey, UK)

Date:               Monday 15th September 2008

Time:               09h00-18h30 (full day)

Room:                         LA VERRIERE

Objective:

On average, every 18 months we experience the emergence of a new air-interface standard or the enhancement of an existing one. The justification for this has always been a perceived improvement in “efficiency”.  To complement the existing research work being undertaken to improve efficiency, there is also a need to consider the most appropriate definition of efficiency, balancing the needs of spectrum licensees, owners and users, and to identify the circumstances, which will allow the maximum efficiency to be realised. This full day workshop aims to bring together internationally-leading academic and industrial thinking, to discuss what “efficiency” means and to highlight what technologies need to be developed to achieve a long-promised efficient mobile radio access system.
