Abstract | As a resource reservation mechanism, the Resource ReSerVation Protocol (RSVP) has been facing a lot of challenges when applying it to the wireless and mobile networks. The interworking problems of RSVP and macro-mobility management protocols such as Mobile IP have been extensively discussed over the last decade. However, due to the reduced update latency and singalling overhead, the micro-mobility management protocol is preferable to its global counterpart. Since the Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) is the most popular micro-mobility solution, it is necessary and useful to investigate the interactions of RSVP and HMIPv6. In this paper, we introduce a formal performance evaluation formalism named PEPA and employ it to investigate the performance of the basic RSVP and mobility-aware RSVP. Performance measures such as handover blocking probability and signalling cost are presented. |
