Abstract Abstract: True pervasive communications comes from the ability to communicate at any speed, time and place. Whereas mobility management and quality of service solutions that cater for the speed aspect exist (i.e. for moving networks), none of the existing solutions consider ways of combining these to provide more seamless operation for the user and better resource utilisation for the operator. We advocate the use of intelligent nodes situated within the access network and above the mobile router to empower the mobile network with the ability to optimise a combined quality of service and mobility management protocol operation. The solutions proposed in this paper exploit the characteristics of moving networks such as vehicle movement speed and multihoming diversity.
