  Achievements and Highlights

Core 4 Secure Applications – Instant Knowledge
Focussing on an application on employees' devices to find the 'best person for the job' in any situation, this programme has delivered innovative and advanced solutions to usability testing, autonomic social network development, context capture and advanced recommender systems. Steps to commercialisation are now being considered by some of VCE's members.
Nigel Jefferies, Huawei
Core 5 User Interactions for Breakthrough Services Jason Williams, Orange
The User Interactions project continues to make good progress both in terms of technologies developed and outreach to the wider academic and industrial community. Our palette of User Interaction technologies continues to be expanded, while a first proof of concept of the Architecture Framework has also now been developed. In terms of Outreach, succesful workshops have been held focussing on Augmented Travelling and Business Models attracting some of the most internationally recognised names in the field. The project is now in its final phase where work is being packaged up such that it best delivers a lasting legacy to all industrial members.
Jason Williams – Orange, Industrial Chairman, User Interactions
Core 5 Wireless – Green Radio
The Green Radio researchers continue to identify opportunities to realise Energy Efficient Radio Access Networks. The Green Radio team has worked in partnership with IEEE VTC, Wireless Innovation Forum, ICT-KTN, UKTI and NMI running workshops that have enabled a continuing dialogue with both industry and academia. Now Green Radio enters the final phase with planned deliverable employing integrative thinking to explore energy efficiency sensitivity analysis with the constrained deployment scenarios.
Simon Fletcher, NEC, Industrial Chairman, Green Radio
Opportunities arising from the UK-China Science Bridge
The high visibility of the UK China Science Bridge continues to offer Mobile VCE members opportunities for beneficial links to both the Chinese academic and industrial communities. Energy Efficiency and Physical Layer innovations including discussions about testbed activities show potential to be developed further to help pathfind key technologies on the route to 5th Generation communication systems.
Simon Fletcher, NEC & VCE Board Member

  Research Priorities
Five research priorities have been emerging to date from the Industry Visions Team, with an undergirding themes underlying these of 'new sustainability' - the global societal need over the next few decades to change the way we do life on this planet, to address the issues of accelerating shortages of energy, water, food and other raw materials. Wireless ICT had great potential to address these issues, as an enabler of other industries.

The presentations below were given by members of the Industry Visions team at the recent Mobile VCE / ICT KTN 'Industry ICT Trends & Vision' event held at 1 Victoria Street, Westminster, on 23rd September.
Flexible Spectrum & the Implications for RF Technology
Trevor Gill, Vodafone Global R&D
  Smart Cities & Connected Environments
Sunil vadgama, Fujitsu
Intelligence Everywhere - a new paradigm for services
Simon Fletcher, NEC
  User Experience - Delivering Value
Jerry Kramskoy, BBC
  Network Security & Robustness
Chris Firth, Thales
